Following Edge226’s recent acquisition of Adscend Media, we sat down with CEO Megan Rafferty to learn more about the company behind one of the industry’s leading Offerwalls. With over 15 years of experience in rewarded advertising, Adscend has built a reputation for delivering performance at scale—helping advertisers connect with millions of highly engaged users through rewarded-based advertising. The addition of Adscend strengthens Edge226’s cross-channel performance marketing platform, giving advertisers even more ways to drive ROI across in-app, CTV, and now, reward-based channels.

In this interview, Megan shares insights on Adscend’s growth, its unique value to advertisers, and what’s next for performance advertising.

Adscend Media has been a pioneer in rewarded advertising since 2009. What has driven your success over the years?

Our success comes from consistently creating value for advertisers, publishers, and users. That means performance-driven campaigns for advertisers, strong monetization tools for publishers, and engaging, rewarding experiences for users.

We’ve invested in proprietary technology, maintained strict quality standards, and built strong industry relationships. Most importantly, we’ve adapted. The industry has changed significantly since we launched as a content-locking platform in 2009, and our ability to evolve with it has kept us ahead.

Offerwalls are becoming increasingly sophisticated, moving beyond installs to drive deeper engagement. How do you see this format continuing to evolve, and what role will it play in a cross-channel strategy?

Today’s offerwalls are full-funnel tools. They guide users through multi-step experiences like downloading an app, completing game levels, subscribing to a service, or making a purchase. These campaigns generate strong engagement and better lifetime value for advertisers.

Offerwalls also reach users when they’re ready to act. Unlike passive ad formats, they deliver intent. That makes them a natural fit alongside CTV, display, or social, especially when trying to convert or re-engage users. I expect continued growth in personalization, tighter app integrations, and smoother movement between channels.

How do you ensure quality and engagement across the millions of users that interact with Adscend’s rewarded ad formats?

Quality is foundational to our platform. We use a layered approach to fraud prevention, combining automated tools, manual review, and close coordination with advertisers. We leverage some of the best anti-fraud tools available to identify suspicious behavior in real-time, and we have a dedicated compliance team monitoring for anomalies and constantly refining our models.

We also work closely with publishers to ensure high-quality placements that encourage genuine engagement. Every offer is reviewed before launch, with an emphasis on clarity, legitimacy, and value to the user.

What types of advertisers or verticals tend to benefit most from Adscend’s platform, and are you seeing any emerging categories gain traction?

Subscription apps, mobile games, and fintech products have always performed well because they align with user motivations to try something new and get rewarded.

Recently, we’ve seen fast growth from AI apps, personal finance tools, streaming platforms, and other reward-based services. These categories are scaling quickly, and we’re well-equipped to support them with both reach and performance.

Looking ahead, what does the future of performance advertising look like to you—and how are Edge226 and Adscend Media positioned to lead that transformation?

Performance advertising is becoming more complex, but also more effective. The shift toward opt-in, high-intent environments is clear, and that’s where we excel.

Edge226 brings cross-channel delivery and data science, while Adscend offers deep expertise in user engagement and reward-based monetization. Together, we can provide a complete solution that delivers both scale and measurable results. Adscend Media will now be able to serve Edge226’s existing clients with rewarded advertising opportunities, tap into Edge226’s strong presence in the U.S. and China, and leverage additional resources to accelerate technology innovation and sales growth.
